20-year-old found dead, family alleges murder

A 20-year-old man was found dead at his friend’s house in Sherpur area on Thursday. The police suspect it to be a case of drug overdose but the family claims that he has been murdered.

The victim, Vikas Kumar, of Giaspura had left with his friends for Dussehra fair on Thursday. The deceased’s brothers, Kulwinder and Ravi, said Vikas’ friends had come to call him for Dussehra fair but late on Thursday evening they phoned the family to inform that Vikas was lying unconscious at one of his friend’s house.

On getting the information, the family reached the spot and took Vikas to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. The members of the family alleged that the victim’s friends poisoned him to death.

Vikas was working as a labourer in a factory.

The Sherpur police have filed the proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. The viscera of the deceased have been sent for lab tests to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Avtar Singh, incharge, Sherpur police post, said it is a suspected case of drug overdose. The police will take appropriate action after getting the viscera report.
