Mystery shrouds the death of a 20-year-old student of Government Medical College here ever since her body was recovered from the bathroom of the girls’ hostel with a dupatta (scarf) around her neck on Tuesday evening. The police started inquest proceedings after it seemed an apparent case of suicide, but probe is on.
Navdeep Kaur, who belonged to Harar village near here, was a student of BSc-1 (medical laboratory technology) at the college, said police officials. “She apparently died due to strangulation as there was a dupatta around her neck,” said sub-inspector Gagandeep Singh, station house officer of the Majitha Road police station, under whose purview the area falls. He added the reasons behind the death were still not known: “The matter is being duly investigated.”
Meanwhile, in another case, a woman, a resident of Majitha Road charged two people with making her want to commit suicide. The police booked Bunty and Kanwal, both residents of Majitha Road. In the complaint, the woman said the two men threatened to implicate her husband in a false case and wanted her to have illicit relations with them. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Mohinder Singh, who is investigating the matter, said further investigations were being held and efforts were on to arrest the accused.
