The Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into the 2009 case in which a Pathankot youth (21) had died under mysterious circumstances.

The high court bench of justice Jaspal Singh passed the order on the 2011 petition of Pathankot’s Sunder Chak villager Vijay Mehta. The detailed order is awaited but, on Wednesday, the high court was dissatisfied with the police inquiry of seven years. The petitioner has submitted that on July 13, 2009, his son, Jai Pal, had been called to a police station to drive a tractor (a case property) to the Pathankot district courts and three days later, his body had been fished out of a river with injury marks made by sharp-edged weapon.

Even the high-court-ordered special investigation team was clueless. Police claimed the youth had got off the tractor and gone with his girlfriend and two boys.
