The Border Security Force (BSF) found 22 kg heroin worth Rs 110 crore on the Indo-Pak border on Sunday midnight in the Ulloke border outpost area in the Ferozepur sector. One Pakistani SIM card was also found along with the contraband. The contraband was packed in 22 packets of 1kg each.
Giving details, R K Thapa, DIG, BSF, Ferozepur sector, said troops were put on high alert following intelligence reports of possible smuggling of drugs in the area.
Sunday midnight, BSF troops near the Ulloke border outpost sensed some suspicious movement of some people near the fence along the border. The troops challenged them, but they started firing on BSF troops.
Sensing danger to their lives, troops also opened fire in self- defence. However, the smugglers managed to escape taking cover of high wild growth and foggy weather. On search of the area, the troops found 22 packets of heroin, one Pak SIM card (Zong company) and a 12 foot-long plastic pipe 4" diameter.
Ashok Kumar, inspector general of BSF, Punjab Frontier, has announced a cash reward and his Commendation Roll to the personnel, who participated in the operation, added RPS Jaswal, DIG.
