A 22-year-old woman has filed a rape case against a 24-year-old resident of Haibowal. The victim, a resident of Gumar Mandi, alleged that Mahavir Singh raped her on pretext of marrying her.

Sukhdeep Singh, station house officer of the Division Number 8 police station, said the victim had stated that she got in touch with the accused around four months ago and developed friendship with him.

The SHO said that the victim told him that the youth raped her in the city before taking her to Mumbai for 3-4 days by making a fake promise of marriage.

The SHO said a case under sections 366 (abduction on pretext of marriage) and 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the man and investigations were on.
