A 22-year-old woman was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws on Sunday.

The Daba police have booked victim’s husband Deepak Kumar, along with her mother-in-law and father-in-law, following a statement of the victim.

The woman suffered burn injuries and was admitted to a local hospital, where her condition is stated to be critical.

A case was registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder), 498-A (dowry harassment) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Amarpal Singh, victim’s father, said his daughter Komal tied the knot with Deepak of Daba Colony around four years ago.
He alleged that Deepak and his parents used to harass his daughter for dowry. They had even demanded motorcycle in dowry.

He further alleged that Deepak, with the help of his parents, assaulted Komal and had set her on fire after pouring kerosene on her on Sunday. Inspector Jatinder Kumar, station house officer at the Daba police station, said a case of attempt to murder had been registered against the accused.

The police had launched a manhunt to arrest the accused, the SHO added.
