The police have booked three people for allegedly murdering the son of a former chairman of Nathana block samiti by administering him some poisonous substance on Wednesday.
The victim, identified as Prabhdeep Singh, 23, a resident of Nathana town, is son of SAD leader Roop Singh and his mother Charanjit Kaur is a former chairperson of the Nathana block samiti.
Those booked under sections 302, 364, 382 and 34 of the IPC are Mohit Chopra and Avtar Singh both residents of Bathinda, and Sippy Baghla from Rampura. The victim's body was found in a house in Baba Farid Nagar in the city. Chopra reportedly is facing cases under the NDPS Act as well.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) city II Sukhdev Singh Brar said that Roop Singh, in a police complaint, said that his son had come to the city for shopping with a cash worth Rs 22,000 on Wednesday morning.
In daytime, his family members talked to him over the phone and he had said that he was accompanied by his friend Avtar, one of the accused. However, he did not come back to his village in the evening. When they could not contact him on the phone they approached the police.
The police traced down the location of the mobile phone of the victim in Baba Farid Nagar where Avtar was staying.
A police team reached the house of Avtar on Thursday morning and found the body of the victim. However, all the three accused fled from the spot on the Bullet motorcycle of the victim.
Brar said that police were searching for the accused and the actual cause of death will be clear only after the viscera report. But, it appears that the victim was administered a poisonous substance, Brar said.
