A 23-year-old woman was killed allegedly by her father and two brothers for honour at Malsian Bajan village in Jagraon on January 1.
The victim, Kuldeep Kaur, who was a nurse by profession, was in a relationship with Bobby, a resident of Sidhwan Bet village, who is an AC mechanic. But the family did not approve of the relation.
Sadar Jagraon station house officer Avtar Singh said, “Police on Wednesday evening arrested victim’s father Jagpal Singh and brothers — Jatinder Singh and Sukhwinder Singh — for murder after investigation the case. The accused are daily wagers.
The police had registered a case following the complaint of Harpal, who is Bobby’s father.
In his complaint, Harpal of Sidhwan Bet told police that his son Bobby and Jagpal’s daughter Kuldeep were in a relationship for past some years and wanted to solemnise marriage.
Harpal alleged that her family had killed her, as some days back when he had approached the victim’s father to solemnise their marriage, her father had told him that he would kill his daughter instead of marrying her to Bobby.
The SHO said, “After recording Harpal’s statement police started investigation. Police contacted woman’s neighbours and relatives, who told that family members cremated the woman’s body and told them that she was unwell for the past sometime due to which she died. On hearing all statements police suspect that this is a case of honour killing. Woman’s father and two brothers have been booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).”
Harpal alleged that even the woman had arguments with her family members, when
they refused to marry her to Bobby.
