As many as 24 lakh Metric Tonne of paddy had been procured of the 26 lakh MT arrived in various grain markets all over the state, said Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, chairman, Punjab Mandi Board, who was here to preside over a review meeting on paddy procurement.
He said that there were 1,795 procurement centres set up by Pungrain, Food Corporation of India, Markfed, PUNSUP, Warehousing Corporation and Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Limited.
Thirteen ultra modern fruit and vegetable mandis-cum-packing houses are being established at various places in the state, Lakhowal said. He said that the mandi board will repair 13,000-km link roads at a cost of Rs 1,700 crore.
He said, in Ferozpeur district, 3.78 lakh MT paddy had arrived, of which 3.34 lakh MT had been procured.
He appealed to the farmers to bring only fully dried produce to the mandis. He also listened to the grievances of farmers and directed the officials and commission agents to ensure hassle-free procurement.
