A 24-year-old man, who was allegedly suffering from depression, attempted to commit suicide by jumping off the third floor of a mall on Ferozepur Road on Monday.

The victim identified as Sahil suffered multiple injuries, including fractures in legs and backbone. He was admitted to Mediways Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.
The victim had borrowed mobile phone from a visitor to call his parents before trying to commit suicide. He had told his parents that he was going to kill himself.

One of the family members of the victim said Sahil was mentally upset and undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar. He was an employee of a private company which made driving licences.
He said the victim had left the house on Saturday saying that he was going to Amritsar with one of his friends Lalit but he did not come back.

Security guards at the mall said when they saw the victim jumping from the third floor, they ran towards him and asked him not to jump, but all of a sudden he removed his footwears and jumped off the floor.

It is pertinent to mention that in a similar case, a handicapped man had allegedly ended his life by jumping off the fourth floor of Silver Arc Mall on Ferozepur road on February 10 last year.
