A 24-year-old married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her house at New Aman Nagar on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as Vaishali. Her husband Sanjiv works as fashion designer in a hosiery factory.

Sanjiv told the police that he came home around 1.15 pm for lunch. At that time his mother was away to a bank, while his father Pardeep Kumar was at work at a hosiery factory.

Sanjiv said the door was locked from inside and Vaishali did not open it even after persistent knocking. When he peeped through the window, he was shocked to see her body hanging from the fan. He broke open the door and sounded the police, he added.

Inspector Balwinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Salem Tabri police station, said as per the statement of the family, Vaishali had recently suffered a miscarriage and was depressed due to that.

The police took the body and sent it to civil hospital for post-mortem examination. No case has been registered yet, as the police are waiting for the statement of the deceased's parents, who have left from Delhi for Ludhiana.
