The city police have booked a Rajinder Kumar Pappu, alias, Pappu Jaintipuria, his son Aman, and four others - identified as Bhola, Kala, Goni and Laadi, son of Bhola - besides 20 other unidentified persons in connection with kidnapping of Baljinder Singh Chahal, a liquor vendor and a resident of New Amritsar.

The accused allegedly kidnapped Chahal from outside his house on Saturday night.

The incident is being attributed to the allotment of liquor vends in Pakharpura circle to Chahal instead of Jainitpuria, who owned these earlier. Congress workers led by former MLA Jasbir Singh Dimpa staged a demonstration in this regard at New Amritsar.

In a complaint to police, the victim alleged that on March 29, the accused beat him and took him into their car at the gun point, pulled his beard, took off his turban and threatened him. Sources said Chahal was with his son when the incident took place.

The complainant alleged that the accused threw him near Saran Wali Hansli after beating him with iron rods. "The matter pertains to allotment of liquor vends. The matter is being probed. A case has already been registered against the accused,"he said.

The accused have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act by the Division B police.
