As many as 250 Congress families in the Majitha assembly segment, including Gurmeet Singh Raju Bhilowal, general secretary of the district Congress Amritsar (rural) unit and former chairman of Tarsikka block panchayat samiti, joined the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday.

Revenue minister and Youth Akali Dal (YAD) chief Bikram Singh Majithia welcomed the Congressmen into the party fold and said the SAD would readily embrace all those who want to join the SAD movement against injustice.

Speaking at a function in Khajala village to welcome the families, Majithia said the fact that Congress leaders and workers were joining the SAD in large numbers was a clear indication of the confidence that the people had in the SAD-BJP alliance. He categorically said that the days of the Congress were numbered.

'Hardcore' Congressmen?
During the days of terrorism, one of the favourite words that the police coined was "hardcore". Every second militant killed or captured was described as "hardcore". This vocabulary of the cops seems to have been passed to the Akalis. These days, the Akalis use the word "hardcore" to describe Congressmen.

The statement issued in English said that around 250 Congress families, including some "hardcore" Congressmen, had joined the SAD.
