In a shocking incident, a man suspecting his wife of infidelity ended his life by hanging self after murdering his wife by strangulating her in his rented accommodation at Ashok Nagar, Salem Tabri, on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Tarsem Singh, 28, and his wife Balwinder Kaur, who was 42 years old, and they got married six years ago. Tarsem Singh was a driver with a hosiery factory. It was Balwinder Kaur's second marriage after death of her first husband. She had a 20-year-old son, Hardeep Singh, from the first marriage, who used to live with them. Hailing from Kachuya village of Patiala, the couple had been living here for the past three-and-a-half years.
Balwinder's son Hardeep was the first to witness their bodies hanging from the girders in the room, when he came home for lunch at around 1.45pm. He raised alarm and informed the police control room (PCR).
The man hanged her wife's body with the girder.
The police have found a suicide note signed by the couple from the room. In the note, the man had accused his neighbor Jeetu, who is a cutter master in a hosiery factory, for driving him to take the extreme step.
Following this, the Salem Tabri police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Jeetu, who is at large.
Salem Tabri station house officer (SHO) Maninder Bedi said “Balwinder's knees were touching bed, while Tarsem's body was hanging in air.”
The SHO said, “It is suspected that the man has murdered his wife by strangulating him and hanged her dead body, and after killing her, he hanged self.”
In the investigation, the police have found that Balwinder Kaur was allegedly having illicit relations with Jeetu and Tarsem Singh was aware about it. He had talked to Jeetu about it and asked him to stay away from his wife, but Jeetu kept on meeting his wife.
When things became out of control, Tarsem took the extreme step.
The SHO said, “The police have found Balwinder's signature on the suicide note. It has been assumed that the couple took the extreme step following a mutual understanding. The police have been examining the suicide note.”
“The police have launched a manhunt for Jeetu's arrest. The matter will be cleared after his arrest,” the SHO said.
