As many as 3,500 cases out of a total 5,000 were solved during a mega lok adalat, presided over by district and sessions judge BS Sandhu, on Saturday.
A sum of Rs 9.5 crore was involved in these cases which were settled on the spot. Sandhu claimed that last year, nearly 5,000 cases were solved in such lok adalats.
He said that six benches were set up to hear the cases in which the financial disputes and domestic disputes were also solved on the spot. He said that people feel happy when they get speedy justice rather than attending long litigations in courts.
Sandhu called on the people to rely on lok adalats to get justice, even in cases already pending in the courts, which are not of serious nature.
One of the cases solved on Saturday involved a matrimonial dispute where the husband and the wife have been living separately for several years. They decided to live together again after Sandhu convinced both of them to do so.
