Families of three youths undergoing rehabilitation at a private drug de-addiction centre on Tuesday alleged that they were beaten up by workers at the centre on the pretext of providing treatment.

Taking strict notice of misconduct by workers of a private drug de-addiction centre here on Wednesday, deputy commissioner Jaskiran Singh formed a special committee comprising sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Satwant Singh to keep a tab on the activities of such centres.

The DC directed the SDM to investigate the incident and take strict action against the rehab centre in case negligence was found on their part.

The SDM conducted an inspection at the centre and got the three victims admitted in the government de-addiction centre. He also interacted with other patients at the private de-addiction centre.

Satwant Singh said he would submit the inspection report to the DC for further action.

Kapurthala has five private drug de-addiction centres for rehabilitation of drug addicts, approved by the state government and a lone government de-addiction centre that has about 22 patients undergoing treatment.
