Police have arrested three drug peddlers and seized about 900 grams of drugs from them in Dera Baba Nanak police station area of Gurdaspur district.
Acting on a tip-off, a police party set up a checkpoint near Bhagtana Tuliian village and nabbed three drug peddlers who allegedly used to cross over to Pakistan without any valid documents and smuggle drugs like heroin and intoxicant powder from there into the Indian territory, Batala senior superintendent of police, Inderbir Singh said. "They had links with the drug peddlers across the border and they also used Pakistani sim cards," he said.
Those arrested were identified as Kulbir Singh, a resident of Awan village; Malkit Singh from Mir Kachana village and Narinder Singh from Bhagtana Tuliian village.
Police have recovered 80 grams heroin and 810 grams intoxicant powder from them.
A case under various sections of the IPC, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Indian Passport Act and other relevant provisions of the law was registered against the accused, he said, adding further investigation in the matter is on.
