Soon after crushing two people on a motorcycle to death, a truck collided with another, on the national highway in Khanna on Friday morning. The second collision led to the death of the truck driver who hit the two-wheeler, while the other truck driver was left injured.

The deceased motorcyclists have been identified as Gurnam Singh, 62, and Anil Kumar, 16, of Mandi Gobindgarh, while the truck driver was Sarabjit Singh of Budha Theh village in Kapurthala.

The injured driver has been identified as Dharamvir Singh, hailing from Haryana.

According to the police, neighbours Gurnam Singh and Anil Kumar were vegetable vendors, who were on their way to Khanna to purchase vegetables.

Meanwhile, a truck, loaded with iron rods, going towards Mandi Gobindgarh, rammed into their motorcycle, killing the duo on the spot. Losing control of his vehicle, Sarabjit hit another truck, which left him severely injured.

Passers-by rushed the injured truck drivers, Sarabjit and Dharamvir, to the government hospital in Khanna, where doctors referred Sarabjit to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Inspector Jagdev Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Sadar police station, said they had booked Sarabjit Singh for causing loss of lives due to negligence. But, he died during treatment.
