3 of family killed in Bathinda accident

Three members of a family were killed in an accident on the Bathinda-Barnala road here near the cantonment area on Diwali when the car they were travelling in collided with a bus of the Adesh Medical Institute. Two others, including a child, were injured in the head-on collision.

Three members of a family were killed in an accident on the Bathinda-Barnala road here near the cantonment area on Diwali when the car they were travelling in collided with a bus of the Adesh Medical Institute. Two others, including a child, were injured in the head-on collision.

The deceased have been identified as Nirmla Devi (40), her husband Gagan Deep Mittal (45) and Mittal’s mother Pushpa Devi (70), residents of Model Town.

The injured are Nand Lal Mittal, husband of Pushpa Devi and the 16-year-old son of the deceased couple.

The family was coming back from Barnala after performing a religious ceremony. Nand Lal Mittal had retired from the public health department.

Two of the three died on the way to a hospital and one died on the spot. The car was completely damaged in accident. People had to cut the body of the car to take out the victims.

Bathinda Cantt police have seized the bus and started investigations. Bodies of the dead were handed over to the next of the kin of the family after post mortem.

The police have registered a case against the driver of the bus who is on the run. Residents of Model Town did not celebrate Diwali due to the tragic accident.

Two injured in accidents

Niranjan Lal, 55, a resident of Mehna Chowk, was critically injured when the scooter he was driving got involved in a collision with a car. The car allegedly dragged the scooter for some distance. The driver then escaped from the site along with the car.

Members of the Sahara Jan Seva admitted the injured to a hospital.
