3 of soldier's family killed in Dharamsala mishap

At least three people, including two women, were killed and five were seriously injured when the vehicle they were travelling in rolled down a 200-ft gorge at Bhitlu village, nearly 8km from here at around 9am on Monday.

The victims, family members of soldier Kartar Singh, belonged to Bhitlu village, and were on their way to receive the retiring soldier at Gaggal near Kangra when the incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses said the driver had parked the vehicle on the roadside in neutral gear. When the family boarded the vehicle, it stated moving backwards and rolled down the gorge.

Locals rushed the injured to the zonal hospital, where one was declared brought dead, while two others succumbed to their injuries on the way to Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda. Police said the victims were identified as Jago Ram (85), Chhaya Devi (55) and Sumana Devi (34), father, wife and niece of Kartar.

Injured Aman Kumar, Desh Raj, Preetam, Pinki Devi and Kartar Singh were taken to the medical college at Tanda.

A case of negligence was registered against the driver, who is absconding.
