3 revenue officials dismissed after conviction

Gurdaspur tesildar Inderdev Singh, naib tehsildar Phumman Singh and patwari Charanjit Singh have been dismissed after a court convicted them of transferring fraudulently 41 kanals and 15 marlas of land belonging to a widow Nirmal Kaur and others in Khojepur village in their names by preparing fake power of attorney.


The tehsildar was dismissed by Punjab revenue department financial commissioner NS Kang while the naib tehsildar and patwari were dismissed by Jalandhar divisional commissioner Sucha Ram Ladhar and deputy commissioner Abhinav Trikha, respectively.

Deputy commissioner Trikha has also cancelled the licence of deed writer Surjit Lal for his conviction in the said case.

Additional judicial magistrate Karnail Singh had convicted nine persons, including the said officials, in a case registered by local police under Sections 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code on November 24, 1997.

The convicts were also fined Rs 14,000 each.
