Even after three years of having received a complaint from a Ludhiana-based model-turned doctor, the local police have failed to nab a conman who cheated a number of women using the doctor's photograph.

Dr Gagan Greval, ex-Grasim Mr India and a former model, had complained to the police around three years ago that someone was using his photograph to dupe girls, leading to embarrassment to him.

A conman with the name Rohit Munjal, who has been duping women using pictures of Dr Greval, has been booked by the Economic Offences wing of Delhi Police under Sections 420 and 34 of the IPC and 66-D of the IT Act following a complaint filed by a Delhi woman on September 20.

Dr Greval said that after being cheated by the conman, several girls contacted him through phone and social media.

"It was embarrassing and I had pursued the matter around three years back with the then police commissioner Ishwar Singh, who had marked an inquiry to an additional deputy commissioner of police, but nothing came of it," said Greval.

"Meanwhile, to make people aware of the fraud, I took help of the social media and created a page in my name. I clarified all facts and made an appeal to the people not to be trapped and received responses and more information from people about the fraud," he added.

Munjal used to contact women through matrimonial sites. After winning their confidence, he would establish contact as a prospective groom and used to borrow money from them making excuses that one of his relatives had met with an accident and he was out of station. He used to ask women to deposit the money in the bank account and that he would return it later.

Once the victim deposited the money, the accused gradually would snap ties with her. The accused used to change names and professions while creating new identity on the social networking site.

Dr Greval said he got dozens of complaints from women conned by the accused and proofs against the conman and had forwarded these to Ludhiana police for taking action, but to no avail.

Dr Greval was Grasim Mr India runners-up in 1997-1998. He had done ramp shows, ads, music videos and TV serials, including the video albums 'Jaaneman' with Pankaj Udhas and 'Uski Baatein' with Jagjit Singh.
