In a brutal case of murder, a 30-year-old man was stoned to death at Kailash Nagar area here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Pawan Kumar, a labourer, of Kailash Nagar.
Jagannath, another labourer, noticed the body lying in the pool of blood and informed the Focal Point police, who registered a case against unidentified person under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police said the body was thrown in the street of the said area after killing. A picture in which he was seen with a woman was found from his rented accommodation, they said.
Police are suspecting illicit relations behind the killing as the deceased had tattooed Pooja Devi on his arm.
They said Pawan shifted to Kailash Nagar from Jassian road around two months ago. Earlier, he used to work at a plastic factory. Ranjit Singh, manager of the factory, told the police that they had sacked Pawan from the job for his indecent behaviour. He identified the woman posing in the picture with him as Kamini. Ranjit said they had also sacked Kamini from the job when they had come to know about their relationship.
Inspector Surinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) at the Focal Point police station, said the police had initiated investigation and had even questioned residents of the area if they had seen Pawan with anyone.
Hailing from Sipol in Bihar, Pawan had been living in Kailash Nagar alone, while his brother lives in Jalandhar. The police have informed the family members of the deceased about the incident.
