Harassed by aides of a former tenant, a money exchanger committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his house in the Dugri area on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Manpreet Singh Raju (30). He was survived by his wife and a three-year-old daughter.

Manpreet had sold a house in the Karimpura area to her NRI aunt (father's sister) after getting it vacated from his tenant, following which the aides of the tenant allegedly started threatening him.
The deceased's wife alleged that a person named Satnam Singh use to call her husband and threaten him by using the names of police officials. Due to the threats, her husband was under depression and on Thursday he hanged himself.

Following the statement of the deceased's wife, the Dugri police have registered a case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code against Satnam Singh.

Sub-inspector Gurveer Singh said a case was registered against the accused, but the family of deceased was not aware of his address. The police were trying to trace the accused.
