Sadar police here on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man for alleged possession of 10-gm heroin. Avtar Singh alias Gollu, a resident of Hawas village in Meharban, was intercepted on Pakhowal Road while he was allegedly going to supply the heroin to his customers. Police have claimed that the accused belongs to a well-off family and owns agriculture land.
The accused was on a motorcycle when he was intercepted. The police have taken into possession his motorcycle and the `5,000 he was carrying. Assistant commissioner of police Harkmal Kaur said the accused was arrested on a tip-off. Sub-inspector Amandeep Singh, the station house officer of Sadar police, said the accused was a drug addict and had taken to peddling drugs to meet his needs.
The SHO said the accused was facing trial in three cases registered at Meharban, Kapurthala and Jagraon. The accused has reportedly told the police that he procured the heroin from a Moga resident and used to sell it at a higher price here.
