360 bottles of illicit liquor seized in Moga

The district police recovered 360 bottles of illicit liquor from a house at Nihal Singh Wala, 42 km from the district headquarters, on Friday.

Police officials said that the Nihal Singh Wala police had received a tipoff that a man Surinder Kumar was selling illicit liquor on the Madheke road in the town.

"As soon as we received this information, we raided the house of Surinder Kumar and seized 30 boxes of liquor bottles. The accused, however, fled from the spot," said Nirmal Singh, head constable of Nihal Singh Wala police station.

The Ajitwal police also seized 3-kg poppy husk from a woman near Kokri Kalan village under Dharamkot subdivision on Friday morning.

Wakil Singh, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Ajitwal police station, said that when a special police team stopped a woman near Kokri Kalan, she tried to flee but, after a long chase, the police nabbed her.

"The arrested woman has been identified as Amarjit Kaur, a resident of Lakhe ke Behram in the district. On search, we recovered 3kg poppy husk from her possession. A case has been registered against Amarjit Kaur under sections 15, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act," said the ASI.

In another case, the police seized 10 gm heroin from Daler Singh, a resident of Dharne Ke Chhana in Jalandhar district. The police have booked Daler Singh under sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act.
