A heavy rush of aspiring counillors was witnessed at the mini-secretariat on the last day of filing of nomination papers for the municipal corporation elections on Tuesday. The secretariat premises witnessed traffic snarls as a large number of candidates made a beeline for filing nominations.

According to additional deputy commissioner (ADC) Roopanjali Kartik, 391 papers were filed on the last day. A large number of top politicians had come to the venue to support the candidates, who came to file papers from different wards. These include PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, BJP president, Punjab, Ashwani Sharma and district president of BJP Parveen Bansal among many others.

One of the major nominations that were filed on Tuesday included that of Harish Rai Dhanda, who is an Akali candidate and has been projected for the post of mayor. He will be contesting the MC polls from ward number 28.

Bansal, who is steering the poll campaign for the BJP in Ludhiana, said the Akali-BJP government was sure of a win in the district. "The coalition is confident that the residents of Ludhiana will again vote for development like they did during the assembly polls," said Bansal.
