The Punjab State Election Commission on Thursday notified the municipal corporation (MC) elections for Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala for June 10, imposing the code of conduct in the four MCs with immediate effect.
The four corporations, comprising a total of 250 wards, are likely to witness a straight contest between the ruling Akali-BJP coalition and the Congress.
With this notification, all development works in the four MCs have come to a halt with effect from Thursday. In case of any code violation, complainants can approach the state election commission here or the local state administrative officials concerned.
Prior to the elections in the four cities, three municipal councils - Machhiwara, Dharamkot and Balachaur - and 29 nagar panchayats (notified area committees) would go to the polls on June 7, for which the notification was issued earlier this week.
