4 killed, 22 injured in separate road mishaps

Four people, including a police constable, were killed in separate road mishaps, while 22 people were injured. In one of the accidents, two youths identified as Soni Singh, 19, and Avtar Singh, 20, both residents of Rai Dharaana village, died when their motorcycle rammed into a truck parked on the roadside on the Jakhal-Leheragaga road.

Four people, including a police constable, were killed in separate road mishaps, while 22 people were injured. In one of the accidents, two youths identified as Soni Singh, 19, and Avtar Singh, 20, both residents of Rai Dharaana village, died when their motorcycle rammed into a truck parked on the roadside on the Jakhal-Leheragaga road.

The police said the accident took place around 9pm on Monday when Soni, who was driving the motorcycle, failed to see the parked truck and smashed into it. Both the deceased were on their way home from Lehragaga. While Soni died immddiately, Avtar succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital later.The police seized truck, while the unidentified driver managed to escape.

Police constable Kuldeep Singh, posted in Sangrur civil lines, succumbed to his injuries sustained during a head-on collision with a Mahindra pick-up. The incident took place on the Dhuri over-bridge when the pick-up driver, identified as Manjit Singh, rammed his vehicle into Kuldeep's motorcycle. The constable was returning to his village after his duty from Sangrur. He was rushed to the nearby hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

In another accident, an unidentified man was found dead in what appeared to have been a hit-and-run by some vehicle near the local drain in Kammomajra Kalan village. Meanwhile, 22 devotees were injured when the vehicle carrying them went out of control and overturned close to Hakimpur Khatra village, near Malerkotla, late on Monday evening. Two sustained serious injuries and were referred to the Government Rajindra Hospital from. All the injured hail from Chuharr Chakk village in Moga. The pilgrims were on their way to attend a religious fair in Jarg in Ludhiana.
