A 46-year-old woman was run over by a train when she was on her way to a gurdwara near Sunet village in Ludhiana on Wednesday. It is suspected that the woman committed suicide as her husband died in a road accident four months ago.

The woman has been identified as Kamaldeep Kaur, a resident of I block of BRS Nagar. She is survived by a daughter and a son.

The area where the incident took place falls under the Jagraon Government Railway Police, which took custody of the body after the incident and sent it to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination. Later, the body was handed over to the family.

Hagdev Singh, sub-inspector of the Jagraon Government Railway Police, said the woman was crossing the lines when she was crushed by Satluj express on Wednesday morning.

Witnesses say the woman was seen approaching the train and was hit by the train after which she died on the spot.
