The worst flooding is at Kot Buddha, Khuulewal, Bhoora, Jaloke, Muthian Wali, Hathar, Chuggian Peer Bakash, Toot, Kirishahi, Sabrah, Kutiwal, and Thanike villages. "We have pitched relief camps at Khemkaran, Valtoha, Talwandi Sobha Singh, Sabhra, Harike Patan and Kot Budha," said deputy commissioner Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal, adding: "The affected families have received rations and animal feed. Medical teams are at work to control the spread of diseases."
The administration has sent 15 teams of doctors and 18 of veterinarians into the affected areas. The doctors have distributed more than 20,000 chlorine tablets to affected people and collected their blood samples. The water level downstream of Harike was 1.17-lakh cusecs, while upstream it is 1.27-lakh cusecs, after 30,000 cusecs was released from Pong Dam.
In Tarn Taran district alone, more than 350 people have been rescued from 47 flooded villages. Special girdawari are assured to farmers, who have demanded Rs 15,000 as compensation for each acre destroyed.
