Police on Wednesday booked five persons for trespassing on Christ Church at Fountain Chowk here on Wednesday. A case regarding the possession of the church was already in the court when one of the two groups occupied the store room a few months ago.
Father Pankaj Anand filed a complaint with the police four months ago and after an investigation into the matter by a senior police official, a case was registered against five persons on Wednesday.
Those against whom police have registered a case have been identified as Gourav Gill alias Gori, Prem alias Happy, Yarub, Neeru Karenstina and Yusub wagers.
A case between two groups regarding the church was going on for the past some time. Even the prayers at the church took place under heavy security cover around the religious institution.
Anand had complained to the police that some miscreants had trespassed on the store room of the church and occupied it. The accused had also started construction work at the site that increased the tension among the groups.
Police are yet to arrest the accused in the case.
An inquiry into the case was also conducted by an additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) rank official. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 380 (theft), 447 and 448 (trespassing), 506 (threatening) 148 and 149 (armed with weapons) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
