punjab Updated: Jan 09, 2013 00:43 IST

Five couples were caught on Tuesday from a cyber café at Kidwai Nagar area, which is owned by BJP leader Ramesh Bangar's kin Gaurav. The BJP leader is alleged to be an aide of former state health minister Satpal Pal Gosain as also head of Active Anti-Corruption Group.

Gaurav Bangar, who allegedly managed to flee the spot, was among 11 persons booked under Immoral Trafficking Act.

Sources revealed that police were under political pressure to hush up the matter, but were forced to register the case as media got wind of the incident.

However, after registering a case, police officials tried their best to hiding the accused from media persons. ASI Pawan Kumar of CIA Staff zone 1 tried to prevent photojournalists from clicking photographs of the accused. Finally, the matter was resolved after the intervention of ACP (central) Ramneesh Choudhary.

It is pertinent to mention here that police officials usually parade suspects before media for photo-ops in order to publicise their achievements.
Other accused were identified as Sanjiv Kumar of New Tagore Nagar, Gaurav Kumar of Valmiki Colony of Basti Jodhewal, Vicky alias Bablu of Habib Gunj, Sahil of Kakowal road and Arif Saifi of Janakpuri area. The five women booked in the case pleaded with media not to reveal their identity. It was learnt that among the women nabbed were a model, a teacher and a private bank employee.

Police conducted the raid after complaints from local residents who claimed that café owner have built cabins and renting these out at Rs 200 per hour to couples.
ACP Ramneesh Choudhary said that a case under Section 3, 4, 5 and 8 of Immoral Trafficking Act had been registered against the accused. Police were trying to arrest Gaurav Bangar.
