Five of Ludhiana family killed as car runs into bus

Five members of a family from Ludhiana died in a mishap in Dehlon near the city on Tuesday night as their car hit a bus after crossing over the divider after an attempt to save a stray dog that came in front of the car, police said.

Five members of a family from Ludhiana died in a mishap in Dehlon near the city on Tuesday night as their car hit a bus after crossing over the divider after an attempt to save a stray dog that came in front of the car, police said.

The deceased were identified as Parveen Kumar, 43, of Gandhi Nagar of Ludhiana, his wife Jyoti, 40, daughters Riya, 16, and Shipu, 14, and 10-year-old son Krishna. Parveen owned the firm RK Gupta Hosiery.

Police inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, station house officer at Dehlon, said Parveen along with his family was coming from Sangrur in his Swift Dzire car after visiting his sister. As they reached near Dehlon, a stray dog came on the road. In the attempt to save the dog, Parveen, who was driving, lost control over the car. The car hit the bus coming from Ludhiana side after crossing over the divider.

The impact of collision was such that the car was badly mangled and all occupants got stuck inside. On being informed, the police reached the spot and initiated rescue. All of the victims were rushed to a hospital nearby, where the doctors pronounced them brought dead.
