The court of district and sessions judge JS Kular has awarded five years imprisonment to Ashwani Kumar of Vishkarma Nagar, Moga, for attempting murder to a 13-year-old boy namely Sukhdev Jaidka.

Sources said Ashwani, who had rivalry with Sukhdev's father, had kidnapped the victim when he was returning from school on October 8, 2012.

Ashwani took Sukhdev to a Jalandhar hotel and tried to kill him. The accused then had managed to escape from the hotel considering Sukhdev dead. But later, the hotel staff rescued the boy and admitted him to civil hospital under serious condition.

The court has also awarded one year imprisonment to Ashwani under Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and imposed a fine of R1000, which, if he fails to pay, will cause him stay four months more in prison.
