A five-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a recklessly ridden motorcycle in Sector 32-D on Monday. The motorcyclist sped away after the accident.
The police said the victim, Medhansh, was playing with other children outside his house and was hit by the motorcycle on the road. An eyewitness said it was a blue-coloured Bajaj Pulsar. The police said the motorcyclist was driving in the wrong lane.
The victim was a student of pre-nursery at a government school in Sector 32. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, where he died. The victim’s father, Nathu Ram, is an employee at a school in Morinda.
Following the death, area residents held a protest putting pressure on cops to arrest the accused. They blocked a road in Sector 32 for over an hour. They said their repeated pleas to the authorities to install speed breakers on the road had fallen on deaf ears.
The police have registered a case under Section 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act of endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the accused at the Sector 34 police station.
