Around 50 acres of agricultural land was flooded due to a 20-ft breach in the local tributary at Sangatpura village near Lehragaga in Sangrur district on Sunday.

According to information, the locals managed to see a breach after they saw around 2-ft water accumulated in their fields of different crops, including paddy, cotton, maize and vegetables.

The villagers also alleged that the irrigation department failed to carry out cleanliness of the tributary despite several requests.

The villagers along with officials of the irrigation department were trying to repair the breach till the filing of the report.

JE irrigation department Bachan Singh said the bank of the tributary passing through the village was damaged after trees were uprooted owing to strong winds a few days ago.
