50-yr-old PAU employee hangs self from tree

A Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) employee hanged himself from a tree on the PAU premises on Saturday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Raj Kumar, 50. He was a class-4 employee at PAU, and used to work as part time waiter in late night marriage parties to earn money.

People, who go for morning walk in PAU witnessed the body hanging from a tree and raised alarm. On being informed, the police reached at the spot and initiated investigation.

Following the statement of the deceased's family, the PAU police have registered a case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) against Kumar's friend Sanjay in this context.

Station house officer (SHO) at PAU police station, sub-inspector Surinder Chopra, said, "According to the family of the deceased, Raj Kumar was in depression due to monetary issue with Sanjay Kumar, who was his friend. They alleged that Sanjay Kumar was harassing him for money."

The SHO said the police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.
