A 58-year old businessman was beaten to death in Garhshankar late Monday. The victim, Bhupinder Singh, ran a cement store at Chohra village.
As per his wife Manjit Kaur, he had come home but a person called him to the shop saying he wanted to make some purchases.
When he reached there, several armed persons launched an attack on him, she alleged. Bhupinder was rushed to the civil hospital where he succumbed to the injuries, she said.
Garhshankar station house officer (SHO) Kulwinder Singh Virk revealed said six persons had been booked for the murder but no arrest was made. He said one of the accused believed that Bhupinder had used some black magic to kill his father who also ran a cement shop in the village.
Meanwhile, the police recovered a charred body of a young girl from bushes in Shahpur village on the Garhshankar-Nangal road. It has been kept in the civil hospital for identification.
