Rice mill owner shot dead in Faridkot, role of local gangsters suspected

According to the police, two accused came in a Swift car and shot bullets at the victim. The accused fled the spot immediately after the crime, leaving the victim in blood pool at his driving seat.

In a broad daylight murder, two unidentified persons killed an owner of a rice mill in Jaitu village of Faridkot on Saturday evening.

The miscreants fired bullets at the victim, identified as Ravinder Kochhar (58) while he was about to step out of his car. Ravinder was returning home from his office when he was shot dead.

Police have procured CCTV footage from the spot.

According to the police, two accused came in a Swift car and shot bullets at the victim. The accused fled the spot immediately after the crime, leaving the victim in blood pool at his driving seat.

A passerby informed the police following which senior police officials including senior superintendent of police (SSP), Dr Nanak Singh reached the spot. The victim was rushed to a local government hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“We are yet to identify the accused but are hopeful of tracing them soon. We are suspecting the role of local gangsters but we are yet to ascertain the same,” said the SSP.

A case of murder has been registered at Jaitu police station.

Sources said that police is suspecting role of local gangsters behind the murder as the victim received extortion threats in the past. It is also learnt that he was robbed of his car and Rs 10,000 in January.

Kin blames police

On the other side, kin of the deceased is blaming police for not providing security to him despite repeated requests.

Narinder Kumar, brother of the deceased said, “After receiving extortion threats, requests were made to police for his security but they didn’t pay any heed.”
