A 60-year-old man was found battered to death with stones near Government High School, Mundian Kalan, on Monday. The body was found by passers-by, who informed the police.
Cops reached the spot and recovered blood-stained stones from near the body that was sent to civil hospital for post-mortem examination.
Inspector Sukhbir Singh, station house officer (SHO), Jamalpur police station, said during investigation, they found the visiting card of a tent house owner from the victim's possession. The police called the tent house owner, who identified the victim as Manmohan Singh, a scrap dealer.
The tent house owner told the police that Manmohan had booked tents around two months ago for his daughter's marriage.
Thereafter, the police sounded the victim's family, who live in Khud Mohalla. They told the police that Manmohan was an alcoholic and after binge drinking on Sunday evening had quarrelled with his family. Later, he hired a three-wheeler and left for somewhere. But did not return.
The inspector said it was possible that the victim indulged in a scuffle with the accused, who battered him to death. He added that the police had got some clues and would solve the case soon.
A case of murder has been registered against the unidentified accused.
