Basant Singh of Mohar Singh Nagar sensed foul smell emanating from his house on Monday and thought it to be a dead mouse. When he struggled to find it, he received the biggest shock of his life. He saw his missing wife's decomposed body in the bed-box.
This is what Basant Singh told the police on Monday. Sixty-year-old Dorathi was missing since August 8 and a missing report was also registered at police station division number 2.
Basant Singh immediately sounded the police. After inspecting the body, the police suspected that the woman was beaten up brutally by killers before being strangulated. The police also found a piece of cloth wrapped around her neck.
No sign of robbery has been traced from the spot and the police suspect that some acquaintance could be behind the killing.
She was living with her husband and ran a playway school-cum-crèche on the ground floor of the house. Her son is settled in Canada and daughter lives in Dubai.
Basant Singh in his complaint to the police said that he noticed foul smell emanating from the house. He said he sprinkled room freshener, but to no avail. He thought a mouse must have died which could be the reason behind the stench and tried to find it. When he opened the cover of the bed, he was shocked to see his wife's body in it.
He immediately sounded the police. ADCP city-1 Nilambari Jagdale, ACP (central) Ramneesh Chaudhary and inspector Kuldeep Singh, SHO at police station division number 2 reached the spot and initiated the probe.
The SHO said a case of murder has been registered against unidentified person. The investigations are on.
