Voting remained peaceful in Nakodar and Mehatpur for the block samiti and zila parishad elections with about 66 per cent and 65 per cent of the voters casting their votes, respectively.

The polling percentage was in spite of a heatwave and tight security arrangements, SDM-cum-returning officer Hardeep Singh said. No untoward incident was reported. Polling started slowly with only 34 per cent of the electorate reporting for voting by 12 am, going up to 52 per cent by 3 pm.

The SDM said micro-observers had deployed at polling stations to ensure free and fair elections.

Meanwhile, more than 60 per cent polling was recorded in Shahkot about 70 per cent in Lohian Khas and about 70 per cent in Nurmahal, respectively.
