More than 7,500 computer teachers, working in government schools of the state, have not received their salaries for the last three months.

For the past three years, computer teachers are not receiving salaries every month. Instead, they get salaries for three months at one go. Talking to Hindustan Times, Gurwinder Singh, state president of the Computer Teachers Union, said, “We do all computer-related work, including data entry, and send all kinds of information to the department as required. But what we are getting in return is nothing. The authorities have not paid our salaries for the last three months. Everything is becoming costly and it is difficult to run our houses”.

He claimed that due to poor coordination between the finance department and the office of director general, school education (DGSE), computer teachers have not got salaries for the last three months.

He said, “If authorities fail to release our salaries in a week, we will hold a protest and gherao the DGSE office”.

Earlier the salary of a computer teacher was routed through DGSE office, DEO office and the school before it was transferred to the teacher’s account. To makethe process faster, the finance department has decided to directly transfer the salary in the beneficiary’s accounts. The DGSE office has collected the details of computer teachers’ accounts. But now the authorities have informed teachers that there is “some problem” in the details and they are verifying them, Gurwinder Singh said.

Harpreet Singh, district president of computer teachers union, said, “Last year also, we had received salary for February, March and April in May; salary for May, June and July in August and for June, July and August in September and we never receive the salary on a monthly basis”

He further said, “The authorities have not provided annual increment to regular computer teachers.

The teachers who are the sole earning members in their families are finding it difficult to run their houses.”
