7 held for hatching conspiracy to loot petrol pump

The police arrested seven members of a gang of miscreants, who were hatching a conspiracy to loot petrol pump, while one gang member is still at large.

The police arrested the accused following a tip-off, when they had assembled at a graveyard in Sherpur on Wednesday evening to plan the loot.

The accused have been identified as Mandeep Singh alias Minta of Khanpur village, Sheru alias Beeru of Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar, Gurmeet Singh alias Romi of Gill Colony, Harwinder Singh alias Lali of Gurmel Nagar, Jagtar Singh alias Jagga of Raja Colonhy of Lohara. The two accused, who escaped from the spot and were arrested later on, have been identified as Rahul Kumar alias Bewda of Gill Colony and Paramjit Singh alias Pummy of Khanpur village.

The police have also recovered two illegal pistols of .315 bore, seven bullets, 1 kg narcotic powder and sharp-edged weapons, besides a motorcycle from their possession.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Jasdev Singh Sidhu said the accused were hatching a conspiracy to loot a petrol pump. Meanwhile, the police raided and arrested five of them, while three of the accused have managed to flee taking advantage of the dark, but two of them were also arrested after some time from Peepal Chowk.

The ADCP stated that the accused were involved in several criminal activities, including attempt to murder, loot and snatchings. Two of the accused were proclaimed offenders in two cases.

A case under section 399 (making preparation to commit dacoity), 402 (assembling for purpose of committing dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code, section 25/54 and 59 of the Arms Act and section 22 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them at Focal Point police station.
