7 held for looting ATMs of Rs 34 lakh

A gang of robbers, who were allegedly involved in looting as many as five ATMs of various banks in Punjab, has been nabbed by the local police and seven of its members were held with a weapon and a gas cutter used in the crime.

Sukhwant Singh Gill, SSP Ferozepur, said Rashpal Singh, SHO Sadar Ferozepur, got a tip off that a gang of robbers was planning a dacoity in Ferozepur, following which he raided Madre village and held seven people.

The accused were identified as Bohar Singh, Jagsir Singh, Subhash, Balkar Singh, Kikar Singh Sahota, Manjit Singh and Nima who, during preliminary investigation, confessed to looting five ATMs of about Rs 34 lakh at areas including Amritsar, Jagraon, Guruharsahai and Ferozepur.

An Innova, an illegal firearm weapon, a Bolero and sharp-edged weapons were recovered from the accused who had been booked under Sections 399, 402 besides 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act.
