Monday evening's accident where seven students were injured, has failed to give lessons to the school.

Seven children of Government Senior Secondary School, Mehraj, were injured in the accident apparently due to the negligence of the school authorities.

However, neither the education department nor the district police have tried to identify the school staff responsible for allowing the minor students to travel on the tractor-trolley to participate in a school-level sports competition in a nearby village.

Rampura Phul police station ASI Gurmeet Singh said 17-year-old Sukhpreet Singh had given the statement that no one was responsible for the accident and hence they did not want to lodge a complaint.

The school principal said the students were on an official trip. However, he refused to comment on whether the school staff was responsible for the accident. He said the students insisted on travelling by the tractor trolley and the school management agreed to that.

District education officer Kanwaljit Kaur claimed that she had no knowledge of the event as she was out of station.

School management committee chairman Balbir Singh said, "Of course, the students were in the fault. They insisted on going by the tractor trolley. They had won their match and were returning to the school in the evening. One of the students was driving. Teachers were following them on a motorcycle. The trolley overturned owing to speed."

When the school principal was asked if they had any funds to arrange a vehicle for such trips, he said they arranged the money from the school fund.

Road accident

A minor student was driving the tractor trolley with around 40 other children travelling in the trolley as they were returning to school at Mehraj after participating in a sports competition at Dhapali village on Monday evening. The trolley overturned and seven students were injured.
