Eight children were injured after a bus of a private school overturned near Utala village on the Barwali-Gosla road around 9am on Thursday.
Thirty-two children were travelling in the bus when the driver lost control while negotiating a curve and it overturned. Two children were injured seriously and were referred to a private hospital in SAS Nagar. The other injured were discharged from a hospital in Samrala in the evening.
Khamano sub-inspector Darshan Singh said a first information report had been lodged against driver Rajnit Singh on the statement of Sukhvir Singh, guardian of two seriously injured children and he has been arrested.
The driver was reportedly beaten up by villagers before police arrived.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Khamano, Ajinder Singh said: “We have arrested the driver and the bus owner has also been booked.” A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 109 (punishment of abetment) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the driver, he added.
