8 Punjabi singers who made it big in Bollywood

Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal has set his foot right in Bollywood. No, we are not talking about his Bollywood debut opposite Govinda's daughter Narmada, but his new song for Naseerudin Shah and Paresh Rawal's film Dharam Sankat Mein.

It is not for the first time that a Punjabi singer has got the Big Bollywood Break. Here is a list of Punjabi Singers who have lent their voice to hit Bollywood songs in the past.

Gurdas Mann: The actor-singer has lent his voice to the famous song Lo aayi lohri ve in Shahrukh Kahn starrer Veer Zara.


Hans Raj Hans: Famous sufi singer made his Bollywood debut with 1999 film Kachche Dhaage's song Khaali dil nahin jaan bhi hai. The song received rave reviews. Not only this, Hans Raj Hans also lent his voice to the famous Aaja nachle song in Monsoon Wedding and Dil tote tote ho gaya in 2000 Rani Mukherjee-Bobby Deol starrer Bichhoo. He also sung Punjabiyan di Shaan for Gurinder Chadha's Bend It Like Beckham.

Mika Singh:
After successfully releasing some albums in Punjab, Mika turned out to be a famous singer in Bollywood. Mika instantly shot to fame with the famous peppy song Dil mein baji guitar. Since then there is no looking back for him. He has lent his voice to many Bollywood hit number like Veere di wedding; Pungi; Jumme ki raat; among others.

Daler Mehandi: Daler Mehandi began his Bollywood career in year 1997 with Mrityudatta's song Na na na na na re picturised on none other than Amitabh Bachchan. He's also sung popular songs like Rang De Basanti's tile track, Zor ka jhatka in Actionn Replayy to name a few.

Yo Yo Honey Singh:
Rapper Honey Singh made a grand entry into Bollywood when he was paid a whopping amount of Rs 70 lakh for track Mujhe neat pila de sajna in Sunil Bohra's flick Mastaan. He, however, came into the limelight with Angrezi beat in Saif-Deepika starrer Cocktail. Since then Yo Yo Honey has sung many popular songs in Bollywood. .

Wadali Brothers: In 2003, the famous sufi singers entered Bollywood. Wadali brothers sang in 2003 Indian period drama film Pinjar followed by a song in 2003 film Dhoop. They have also lent their voices in movies like 2011 film Tanu Weds Manu and Mausam.

Master Saleem:
Master Saleem made his debut as a playback singer with single Mast kalandar from the film Heyy Babyy (2007) under the direction of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The song was a hit and turned out to be a launchpad of a successful Bollywood career. He has sung songs like Tashan mein from the film Tashan and Maa Da Ladla from the film Dostana.

Labh Janjua: Labh Janjua shot to instant fame by the song Mundeyan toh bach ke rahi. Since then the singer has sung many famous numbers in Bollywood like Jee karda and Talli hua in Singh Is Kinng(2008); London thumakada in Queen (2014) and Soni de nakhre in 2007 film Partner.
