Following the tension prevailing in the Punjab state due to sacrilege of the holy book of the Sikhs, the Guru Granth Sahib the government has deployed border security force (BSF) in Patiala, on Friday. A company having 84 BSF personals laid by an assistant commandant deployed in the city to ensure the law and order situation.
While giving the details, Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Patiala, Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said that while the taking the precautions to maintain the law and order situation in city, BSF has been deployed. He added that the local police force was also on toes to their duty in Patiala.
However, the protesters have continued their protest, pressing their demands to take strict action against the culprits responsible desecration of ‘bir’ Guru Granth Sahib at Khanda chowk outside Dukhniwaran Sahib gurudwara at Patiala.
SSP said that the protesters were peacefully continued their as no violence reported so far and no protesters were detained in police custody.
Some protesters, not wishing to be named, claimed that till the state government was not able to handle the situation, presidential rule could be imposed in the state.
“If SGPC members fail to protest against the recent incidents by resigning, we would protest outside the houses of Punjab cabinet ministers and SGPC members,” a protester claimed.
